Lebanon-Israel Talks End After 6-Hour Session in D.C.

(MENAFN) A fourth round of US-brokered negotiations between Lebanon and Israel wrapped up Wednesday in Washington, D.C., according to Lebanese sources who spoke to media.

The second and concluding day of talks at US State Department headquarters stretched beyond six hours, sources confirmed.

Ceasefire Holds — But Barely
The Washington talks come against a backdrop of relentless violence. Despite a ceasefire that took effect on April 17 — later extended through early July — Israel has continued near-daily strikes on Lebanon since March 2, killing nearly 3,500 people over that period.

Tensions reached a dangerous new peak when Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu ordered ground forces to expand their incursion and directed strikes on Beirut — a sharp escalation that rattled the fragile diplomatic framework.

Trump Steps In to Restrain Netanyahu
The escalation was ultimately checked following a tense phone call between Netanyahu and US President Donald Trump, according to a report by a news website — signaling that Washington's direct intervention remains a critical brake on further military action.

With negotiations now in their fourth round and the July ceasefire deadline looming, pressure is mounting on both sides to convert the talks into a durable agreement before the fragile truce collapses entirely.
